Day 01: Arequipa
In the afternoon, we pick you up from your hotel and take you on a three hour excursion through our UNESCO World Heritage listed city of Arequipa. We see the beautiful and colourful Santa Catalina Convent, the Plaza de Armas which is one of Peru’s finest squares, the church and cloisters of the Company (Compania de Jesus), the church of San Francisco with its Baroque pulpit and San Lazaro. We finish the day with a magnificent view of our lovely “White City” at the viewpoint of Yanahuara, then return to the hotel.
Day 02: Arequipa / Colca Valley
After an early breakfast, we start a wonderful journey to Colca Canyon, the deepest canyon in the world. On the way, we visit Pampas Cañahuas and Patapampa known as the Mirador de los Andes, where we appreciate the snow-covered volcanoes of Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualcahualca and Mismi and the crater Chucura. Then we descend to Chivay, seeing expansive and impressive pre-Incan terraces on the way. We arrive at Chivay at 13:00 approx. where we go straight to the restaurant for lunch and then transfer to the selected lodge. In the afternoon there is an optional visit to the hot medicinal thermal springs "La Calera", which are said to help with arthritis and rheumatism.
Day 03: Chivay / Condor's Cross / Arequipa
After an early breakfast we begin the journey to the Cruz del Condor, a natural viewpoint where you can appreciate the magnitude of the Colca Canyon and the spectacular condor in flight. On the return to Chivay, we stop at the viewpoint of Choquetico, where we see the hanging tombs and the amazing blue print stone or carved rock, as well as terraces and streams. We also stop at the viewpoint of Antahuilque, where we observe 3 charming lagoons. We also visit the town of Maca to observe the baroque style altarpieces in their church. We continue to the town of Yanque to appreciate its beautiful church and its stone streets, as well as other attractions. We have lunch at a local restaurant in Chivay, then return to Arequipa, arriving to the hotel at 18:00 hrs approx.
